Seagulls gone by
This note is for my friend Anne-marie. I've known you for years now, woman. You've always been there for me, never once judged me or forced advice on me. You've given me everything you could, not to make me happy, but to help me find my own happiness.
Though it's been years since I've seen you, I've never forgotten your face. I know that someday when I get married (not if, but when) that you will be there, as you always have, wishing me well.
I've seen your notes and I know you're keeping an eye on me, and I just want to let you know that I am doing well. And, as long as there is a matter of $400 for a certain plane ticket floating around, I'm never going to go out like that.
To all the rest of you, I say this: Somewhere in your life, now, yesterday, or tomorrow you have a friend who is everything you ever asked for out of life, someone in whom you can find no fault, no matter how hard you look, and who sees no fault in you. This person is the most important thing in your life, second only to your life partner, and in some cases *is* your life partner. Cherish them, and be that to someone else.
Thanks Daniel for writing that. Reading it again tonight touched me as deeply as when I read it for the first time. We've seen eachother since you wrote that. And both our lives have gone through many ups and downs. But every time I see a seagull I still think of you.
